When Jock Jr took over Claverack Builders, one of his first projects was renovating the estate Hawkins Hill. We have been repairing and improving almost every square inch of the property over the past few years. It all started with light carpentry in the house, securing a large barn, repairing a barn and making dry storage space, repairing and expanding a chicken coop and mowing the lawn. We then installed a custom cedar fence and raised beds for a beautiful garden. From there it was on to the house, we replaced the siding on the wood addition and insulated while the walls were open, all new custom wood windows were installed. After that repair we then moved back outside to install an amazing wood deck, with a beautiful view of the Claverack Creek.
Our latest undertaking was the renovation of the main brick/stone house interior. We removed all walls and sheetrock to reveal the original framework of the upstairs. The clients lived with the rooms gutted to get a feel for the space and come up with their remodel design. The first step was to frame out the new design and then insulate with closed cell insulation and a HVAC system that will make the house comfortable for the first time. The finishes were wide pine boards on the ceiling and 18” square wood batten system on the walls. We kept select beams and cross-members open to show the original “bones” of the house. Gable walls were plastered and floors refinished. Custom bookshelves were installed throughout and a custom daybed area was made.
All of this combined with the clients expertise in textiles made for an exquisite living area to be featured in many interior design articles such as TRNK.
