The client enlisted Claverack Builders to help turn a 100 year old barn into a rustic chic vacation rental.
We removed the rotting African mahogany deck and replaced it with black locust, a material used locally for long-lasting split rail fences. Left untreated, black locust will weather to match the silver of the barn and due to the open, off the ground design we built with, is likely to last 50 years or more. To complete the deck we installed a 3 season outdoor shower with an arbor for vines.
Inside, the kitchen and bath remodel used all reclaimed materials and we cladded a modern high end refrigerator with wood to make it appear as original as everything else. We weatherized the windows and doors to minimize energy loss and installed a 95% efficient, on-demand, tankless hot water heater so that guests can take a long, hot outdoor shower, even when it’s chilly out!
